Entrepreneurship at the Delaware Libraries

Do you have an idea for a product or service? Have you always wanted to start your own business? Or are you looking to make a meaningful career change?

Learn how to think (and act) like an entrepreneur!

Online Resources

Start your search in the Business & Entrepreneurship LibGuide. Resources from the libraries along with links to our partners in business development and their resources have been pulled together in one place.

Training

Before you make plans for a business venture, go to the tab Learning for Aspiring Entrepreneurs. Consider Entrepreneurial Mindset Training as your starting place to learn how entrepreneurs think, prioritize and act in ways that are the foundation of their success. You’ll also find a list of other organizations offering workshops and courses.

Assistance

Delaware Libraries have partnered with the Delaware Division of Small Business and Negocios to provide individual counseling. To have a counselor contact you, complete a request form at this link if you prefer English or this link if you prefer Spanish.

Business development organizations that provide assistance and support for communities underrepresented in entrepreneurship are listed in the tab Resources for Specific Populations. These organizations provide certifications, access to funding and training for entrepreneurs with disabilities, minorities, veterans, and women.

Safe Spaces for Work and Collaboration

Libraries are a great place for entrepreneurs who need a quiet, safe environment to focus on their business. There are spaces for business owners to develop plans and strategies or meet with an advisor or mentor. Call your local library to reserve a space.

Delaware’s public libraries provide fast and free WiFi to connect to the internet using your device or a library computer. Many of the libraries have 3D printers and other emerging technologies that you can use to help develop your product. If you need technology to be able to work from home, libraries have Chromebooks and MiFi hotspots that you can checkout just like a book.

Research

It’s important to understand your business’s industry, know who your competition is and identify your customers. Start in the Research tab of the Business & Entrepreneurship LibGuide. It is organized by company research, industry research and a section with local information. If you didn’t find what you need, you can submit your question via email, text, Facebook or phone at Ask A Librarian.
